Why Compromise Is Important in a Relationship

One cannot be selfish in a relationship but they must also put themselves first from time to time.  More so, your partner should also do the same to ensure the relationship is healthy.  The best way to do this is through compromise.  Compromise is a settlement between two or more parties for one situation to benefit the parties involved.  In this case, compromise in a relationship involves allowing the other person to be happy while also thinking of your own happiness and keeping the relationship alive.  Sometimes, this can mean doing something for the other person you may not be pleased with, such as allowing the other person to do something they want to do when you wanted to do something else.
As long as you allow the other person to be happy and vice versa, the relationship will be much better off.  Selfish people do not create the greatest of environments for a relationship.  If you put yourself first most of the time, chances are your significant other will get tired of being neglected and move on.  However, you do not want to live a life of pleasing another person while putting your own happiness on hold.  This can cause you to resent the other person, making yourself believe that it is their fault for always taking but never giving.  You need to find a balancing between your happiness and theirs, compromising as much as possible to make both of your lives fun and exciting.  Without this, there is a high chance the relationship will not work out.
When you sign up for a relationship, you give up the freedom to always put yourself first.  You still have that option, but the relationship will go nowhere.  If the person you are with is worth it in your opinion, then do what you can to maintain the relationship while also doing things you want to do.  Communicate, compromise, and grow as a couple.  That is how a healthy relationship is created.

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, fa...

How Communication Can Repair & Strengthen Relationships

Communication is the key to success in all aspects of life.  We often assume people know how we are feeling, but this is not the case.  Nobody truly understands how you are feeling unless you tell them.  To quote Eleanor Roosevelt, “You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realize how seldom they do.”  The Importance of Communication      Without communication, we tend to overthink, overreact, and become emotional.   We lack answers so we make them up in our heads.   Small problems become big problems real quick, and we may lash out at the other person.   If you don’t know what’s going on in the other person’s head, how can you expect to understand their way of thinking?        When we communicate, we learn from the other person’s perspective.   Instead of using our own perception to justify something, we learn the real reason behind someone’s actions, ...

3 Reasons to Incorporate Breaks Into Your Daily Routine

Something as simple as a break can be overlooked easily.  Today's fast-paced society can be strenuous to keep up with.  It is no wonder why people can forget to get away from their work and relax.  However, people need to realize that without breaks, productivity can decrease, we can feel overworked, and our focus diminishes.  So, as a reminder to all of those hard-working folks out there who forget to think of themselves from time to time, here are three reasons to incorporate breaks into your daily routine. 1. Breaks Can Increase Focus      We can sometimes get so invested in our work that tunnel vision kicks in.  When this happens, we seldom stop what we are doing and 'focus' on the end goal of our projects.  This, ironically, can lead to a poor work performance.  Tunnel vision can cloud our minds and judgement, making us focus on getting the project done rather than the minor details.  As a result, mistak...
