Keep Life Simple - Here's Why

The more stress we put on ourselves, the harder it becomes to enjoy life.  We should all shoot for the stars but it should not consume us.  Life becomes a lot less complicated when we allow ourselves to maintain simplicity.  Everything we do can be broken down into simple instructions.  For example, cooking Thanksgiving dinner can be broken down into a few simple steps; get the food, prepare certain items first before others, start cooking at a certain time, etc.  This is much better than making yourself worry about what you are going to do first, how big the meal has to be, or how the result needs to be perfect for everything to work out.  Which situation would you like to occur in your own life?  The same methodology can be applied to anything in life.  It has undoubtedly helped me in situations where I have felt stress or dealt with hardship in order to regain control.
I have always noticed that what we stress over ends up becoming meaningless after the moment has passed.  For example, a project at work may seem stressful at the moment, but afterward, when it is over you analyze the situation for what it is, not worrisome in the slightest.  This is often where we break down the stressful situation into simple segments.  We need to do this before the project is complete to lower our stress levels, work more productively, and maintain our own happiness.
Life also becomes much more enjoyable when you begin to appreciate the little things.  These vary from person to person but think of something that makes you happy in a small way.  It could be cooking with your mother, going on a trip around the holidays, or watching a movie with your significant other.  Hold onto these simple pleasures because they are what make life worth living.  Yes, being rich and famous is something you should strive for if that is what you want but do not forget to treat yourself right.  We should never let our desires for wealth or personal gain prevent us from making memories and having fun.  If you do and you reach that point where you do become successful, there will be bitterness to it.
Remember, life is more than just achieving goals, it is about being in the moment, keeping things simple, and enjoying its simplicities.  If we do this then we will be happy wherever we are in life.  True happiness is created by the individual, not through material gain or wealth.  We have to remember stress comes from our own mind, and we can easily switch to a different mindset by breaking things down in simple ways.  We will look back on the simplicities which brought our lives so much joy and meaning.  Overall, we will thank ourselves for living stress-free rather than worrying about things that may not even matter a day after.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
