5 Ways to Eliminate Self-Doubt

Setting goals is easy but sticking to them can be difficult.  This is not due to our inability to succeed but rather our willingness to continue.  Self-doubt is often the killer of creativity and success.  There are various reasons as to why this can happen; a demotivating bad day, criticism, overthinking, etc.  Whatever the case, it is important to understand that self-doubt is natural.  Whether you are an introvert or extrovert, confident or insecure, everybody has these types of thoughts.  The goal is to prevent these thoughts from affecting progression.  Self-doubt should not be a deciding factor in the outcome of life, especially when there are numerous ways to motivate and encourage oneself.  Here are five ways to eliminate self-doubt.
1. Exercise
Exercise eliminates self-doubt by taking one’s mind off of negative thoughts.  When exercising, the body and mind focus on the task at hand rather than wandering aimlessly.  We also feel better because of the adrenaline rush and the energy it creates.  This energy can provide increased confidence and motivation in times of need.  Personally, I have gone running after hard days and felt much better afterward.  It does not matter what type of exercise you do as long as you get out there.  The more you do this, the easier it will be to handle the bad days and the self-doubt which inevitably comes.
2. Spend Time with Loved Ones
Spending time with loved ones is a great way to get the mind off of self-doubt.  Sometimes it is a good idea to get away from the negativity and be with the people we love.  Our loved ones can provide comfort during hard times.  We make memories with our loved ones, are happier, and have more fun.  Our minds are focused elsewhere and the self-doubt is limited in its power.  Also, venting to loved ones can be a great way to blow off steam and feel better.  Loved ones can provide feedback which may help in eliminating any doubt you may have.  They can also provide encouragement and make you feel more confident in your ability to succeed.
3. Realize Success Takes Time
When a seed is planted, it takes a while to grow.  The seedling needs care and nourishment in order to continue growing.  Too many disturbances can cause the plant to wilt or die.  The caretaker has to maintain the plant or else run the risk of losing it.  The caretaker may not see much progress in the beginning and get discouraged.  However, if they keep maintaining the plant, they will someday succeed in creating something to be proud of.
Think of yourself as the caretaker and your goals as the plant.  For most people, success will not happen overnight.  Not only that, but it can take time to see results.  People end up abandoning goals because of this.  They put a lot of time and effort into their work and see little return early on.  Self-doubt kicks in and we begin to tell ourselves it is not worth it.  The reality is that most success requires hard work and dedication.  Yes, you may not see many results in the early stages, but as you continue to grow and learn, things can change.  Stick to your goals and see them through.  Have those moments of doubt but remember you will succeed if you continue to work for it.
4. Get Some Sleep
When we are overtired, it can be difficult to handle the negative aspects in life.  Things that we would normally brush off suddenly become amplified in their intensity.  This can make people feel worse than they normally would, especially when it comes to self-doubt.  When we are tired, we rarely want to go the extra mile.  So, make sure to get plenty of sleep.  7-8 hours of sleep will keep you focused, alert, and well-equipped to handle the stress that comes with life.  Self-doubt will also be easier to deal with because you will have more energy and feel confident.  Staying up late can be fun from time to time, but it should not be a recurrent act.  Be sure to maintain a healthy sleep schedule and enjoy late nights in moderation.
5. Focus on the Goal
The best way to eliminate self-doubt is by attacking the source.  In this case, it is the goal we are fearful of not meeting.  Rather than wallow in sadness and discourage ourselves, we have the ability to face our fears and work towards our goal.  Doing so can eliminate any self-doubt because you are actively making progress.  Not only that, but any overthinking you may have can and will go away once you place yourself into the scary situation.  Sometimes all it takes to believe is to throw yourself into what you fear.  There can be no self-doubt if you make your thoughts become reality.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
