The Significance of Family Dinners

Family dinners are what brings the family closer together.  My entire life, my family and I have had family dinners, and it is because of this we are such a tight-knit group.  We have so many fond memories of eating, spending time together, and having a good time.  We would often listen to music while also having great discussions revolving around numerous topics.  I encourage everybody to have family dinners for the reasons stated.  Every time you sit down with your family, you give your family the opportunity to talk, become closer, and make memories.
The main reason for having a family dinner is for family discussion.  Talking brings people closer together and makes the experience more enjoyable.  When family members go and do their own thing, the family does not connect, laugh, or share experiences.  One of the best things to talk about is memories, especially when it comes to one’s own parents.  It is always fun to hear about their childhoods and what they did when they were kids.  The same thing applies to older siblings.  Older siblings share their wisdom and their memories while younger siblings listen and learn.  Overall, when we talk to each other, we not only learn about the other people around us but also life lessons which we can apply to our own lives.  The easiest way to do so is through family dinners because it brings everybody together to share a meal and talk while doing so.
Family dinners give people the opportunity to become closer to their family.  Rather than eating by yourself and doing your own thing, family dinners allow everybody to come together and talk, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.  More often than not, it also gives you the opportunity to learn more about your family; their likes, dislikes, what makes them laugh, etc.  This can lead to a closer relationship with everybody in your family.  Personally, I can attest to this, since my family is close and we have had family dinners all of my life.  We look forward to eating together and are sad when one of us is not able to come.  It is a time to reconnect, share stories, and be together.
Some of my fondest memories are around the table with my family.  My favorite involves listening to George Winston while we all talk about our day, my dad telling a funny story about something that happened at work, and the inside jokes made over the years.  The fact of the matter is, family dinners make memories, memories which you will take to the grave.  The number of laughs, discussions, and lessons learned around the table are in the hundreds.  You will most likely take these memories to the grave.  So, if you want to make memories, learn something about your family members, and bring everybody closer together, spend an hour as one and share a meal.  You will almost always be thankful for doing so.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
