5 Ways to Overcome Laziness

Everyone gets lazy from time to time.  However, it is not something to make a habit out of.  Unfortunately, many people tend to do this and have a difficult time making positive changes in their lives.  Thankfully, there are ways to get out of one's own personal rut.  Here are five ways to overcome laziness.

1. Tomorrow Is Never the Answer
Many people put off goals until the following day.  They say to themselves, “I’ll just do it tomorrow,” but tomorrow never comes.  This inevitably becomes a habit, eventually leading to the person either giving up or forgetting about the goal altogether.  We need to remember success can require sacrifice, leaving our comfort zone, and hard work.  This means we will need to allocate time out of our daily routine and apply it to whatever we want to achieve.  Unfortunately, people tend to lean towards what makes them comfortable, so we end up following through with our normal habits.  It is almost like an addict telling themselves, “I can quit whenever I want,” but they never do.  Avoid this mindset and realize the damage it can do.  Stop putting off your success and start working towards it.
2. Catch Yourself Thinking Negatively
Everybody thinks negatively from time to time.  However, when it comes to laziness, negativity often stems from us not believing in ourselves.  Many people say things like, “I’m not good enough,” or, “This is not something I could do.”  As a result, we do not push ourselves to make a change and entertain ourselves with television, social media, or other distractions.  In reality, we can do whatever we set our minds to.  The outcome is dependent on what we want and how badly we want it.  Nothing is stopping us from achieving your goals.  Our greatest enemy is ourselves.  We tend to criticize, ridicule, and shame ourselves more than anybody else.  Instead, we need to make an effort to be more positive.  Otherwise, you will continuously put yourself down, have a lack of confidence, and make it more difficult to live the life you want to.  It can be difficult to do at first, especially if you are someone who is insecure, but the more you practice, the easier it becomes.  After a while, you will start believing in the words you say.
3. Make a Habit of Eating, Drinking, and Sleeping Properly
A major cause of laziness is a lack of energy.  This is usually due to fatigue, hunger, or dehydration.  It is a good idea to make sure you are getting enough sleep at night.  If not, figure out the reason why and look for a resolution.  When we are tired, we not only feel lazy but have a lack of motivation to do anything.  Hunger and dehydration can cause the same problems.  When we are hungry or thirsty, all we can think about is food and water.  Dizziness, a lack of energy, and fatigue can result as well.  This makes people less inclined to work towards success when they feel sluggish or weak.  Many people do not take the time to sleep, eat or drink enough, and as a result, they are not doing more than what they are required to survive.  Do not fall into this routine, and if you are you should make an effort to change your habits.  Try and eat healthy and filling meals, drink at least eight glasses of water a day, and six to seven hours of sleep can go a long way.  You will see a noticeable difference in the way you think and feel, and you will have more of a motivation to make a difference in your life.
4. Self-Trust
Many people do not trust themselves enough to succeed.  They question their abilities and make themselves believe they do not have the willpower to follow through.  Everybody has these thoughts from time to time.  When you think about it, it is quite strange, because if someone thinks this way, all they have to do is change their habits.  Easier said than done I suppose, but it is not impossible.  In fact, although many people do not trust in their abilities, those people would realize how simple it is to change if they took the first step.  Unfortunately, insecurities tend to take over.  As a result, they often remain in their comfort zone and do not venture out far.  When this happens, it usually stems from one’s own insecurities.  We have to stop getting in our own heads and realize we can do anything we set our minds to.  I am here to say that you can accomplish your goals and you have the ability to do so.  Take a leap of faith, tell yourself that you have the ability to succeed, and see where it takes you.
5. Just do it
There are those who would say, “Easier said than done,” when it comes to this method.  To those people, would not you agree that this method is, in fact, one of the best ways to succeed?  The fact of the matter is if you want to succeed, work at it.  Do not put it off and do not make excuses.  Make an effort to work at the life you want and deserve.  Create your own strategies and do whatever you can to make time.  Whether you succeed or fail, the fact that you made an effort will have many benefits.  More often than not, people who do so learn much more than they did previously, and it helps them succeed in the future.  Take the first step and see how easy it is to work towards a goal.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
