Life Advice Blog #3 - Change

Today we talk about change and the importance of adaptation. People are content within their comfort zone when in reality it should be the opposite.  Naturally, humans should embrace change.  Adaptation was necessary for survival in the early days of humanity.  Nowadays, society is full of luxury, and people can live their lives with very little to worry about.  Because of this, I believe most people now resist change, and there are people who are less likely to adapt to their new reality.  Personally, I am not a huge fan of change, but I understand that it is a continuous part of life.  There are people who dislike change, because they often associate change with the negative connotations of words like “unknown” or “different.”  I am not trying to say you should like change when it is positive and hate it when it is negative.  The point I am trying to make is that change will always occur, and how a person handles this change makes all of the difference.  The best way to handle change, in my opinion, is to embrace it. You do not have to necessarily like change, but embracing it, and learning to adapt to it, will give you a different outlook on life as a whole, and you might learn something in the process.

One of the reasons why it is important to embrace change is that it challenges you to strategize, to think of new ways to deal with the new reality.  I believe that one reason why people resist change is because it requires work to adapt. Most people think “why can’t I just keep doing what I’m doing rather than deal with these new changes?”  Well, for one, your comfort zone prevents you from growing as a person.  A person needs to be thrown into new experiences in order to fully grow and mature. New experiences require a change in a person’s daily routine.  This can be scary, because it means someone is now having to leave their safety net and learn new things, they must adapt to the changes in their lives.  In order to adapt, the person needs to think, strategize, and plan.  The plan the person devises will be beneficial in successfully adapting to the changes in their lives.  The more a person does this, the easier it is to handle the changes life throws, you grow and mature.  Some changes can be difficult to handle, of course, but it is better to have experience in handling change than having something devastating occur and not be prepared.

If you are currently going through changes in your life, good or bad, understand that your outlook on life, as well as a positive attitude towards this change, can help dramatically.  Whether it is a new job or a death of a loved one, the same logic applies; embrace the inevitable change, strategize, and plan.  It may not solve every problem, but it will help in adapting to your new reality.  You do not have to agree with the changes, but you have to learn deal with them in order to grow and/or move on.  By doing so, you are more equipped to take on the world, overcome hardships, and achieve the goals you set for yourself.

Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what ...

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, fa...

The Fear of Death & Its Irrationality

When our time comes, and we have lived our lives to the fullest, a new chapter begins.  That chapter is death, and often times we are afraid of it.  We are afraid of death not for what it is but for what it implies; the unknown, change and leaving our old lives behind.  Humans fear change and the unknown because we actively seek comfort, stability, and happiness.  These aspects have a chance of providing what we seek, but they can also cause pain, instability, and sadness.  We may end up feeling lost or unsure of what happens next.  When it comes to death, it is different from regular unknowing and change, because the only way to understand death is to experience it for ourselves.  We cannot imitate death nor can we truly understand what happens until it is our time to move on.  This, as well as the thought of leaving everything you have built behind, can make death even more frightening.  However, we should not fear death...
