Five Reasons to Maintain Patience

Patience is a virtue, and as such can be beneficial in everyday life.  We need patience to maintain a good quality of life, healthy relationships, and to lower stress, anxiety, and anger.  The sooner we realize this, the better off we become.  So, it is important to understand the reasons why being patient is useful.  Here are five reasons to have patience.

1. Good things come to those who wait
Many people become discouraged when they are not comfortable with where they are in life.  They are unsure of the future and are afraid they are not doing enough.  These thoughts come from impatience and fear.  The best way to go through life is by being patient, going with the flow, and focusing on one day at a time.  We all want our desired outcomes to come true.  Most of all, we want those outcomes to occur as quickly as possible.  This is not always the case, as outcomes can be unpredictable and can take more time than expected.  Some may find the waiting game tedious and uneventful, ultimately leading them to give up.  However, being patient, while also remaining consistent, constitutes our expectations into becoming a reality.  Good things come to those who wait, you just have to allow yourself to do so.  In the end, life will work itself out, and you will be able to reap the rewards.

2. Prevent Emotional Responses
When arguments become heated, people tend to speak through their emotions.  Sometimes, these emotions cause the person to say something they regret later.  Many who respond emotionally do not mean what they say, but they say it to make the other person feel bad, hurt them, or win the argument.  However, emotional responses such as these can make the situation worse.  Patience can prevent these types of problems because it allows the person to maintain composure.  You do not want to lose someone over a few words said in the heat of the moment. By maintaining composure, the person is able to prevent themselves from saying something they will regret later.  Any problem can be resolved without getting emotional and causing unnecessary tension between people.

3. Do not Jump to Conclusions
Jumping to conclusions does not always end well.  Most people who do so end up being wrong.  Impatience is usually the reason.  Rather than being patient, doing research, and concluding based on the information found, people will react too quickly and assume without a strong foundation.  When they are wrong, they often feel foolish, lose credibility among their peers and the public, and can also be deemed untrustworthy.  Patience allows the person to think rationally, understand the situation better, and work towards making the right assumptions.  This can be applied both in personal and professional settings.  Personally, patience will allow you to have disagreements with family members, friends, and/or significant others without getting too heated.  Jumping to conclusions can cause the other person to distance themselves, causing strain on the relationship.  Professionally, jumping to conclusions can cause tension between coworkers and can make you look unprofessional.  Most people expect their coworkers to do their research before blaming somebody or doing something.  Failure to do so can cause you to lose credibility.  Overall, it is better to have patience, do research, and make conclusions based on the information found.  It will prevent unnecessary problems in the long run.

4.  Make Life Easier and Less Stressful
There are many people who are impatient, and because of this, they are often angry, anxious, and stressed.  We see these types of people every day; someone who gets angry easily, a person driving erratically, has road rage, or someone who cannot handle another person having different opinions.  Whatever the case, these people are more stressed than an average person, because they have little patience.  Do not be this type of person as it lowers the quality of life.  Maintaining patience will allow you to calm down, relax, and maintain rationality.  Anger will not be the first emotion brought up in a disagreement or problematic situation.  Instead, you will be able to maintain composure and respond both intelligently and rationally.  Not only that, but you will not feel emotional, stressed, or anxious when issues arise or situations need to be dealt with.  Those with patience understand every problem can be resolved, and life is too short to be angry, stressed, or anxious over the small things.

5. Prepare You for the Future
Patience will prepare you for the future.  Most of life requires patience in order to resolve problems, prevent situations from becoming worse, and maintaining loyal, trustworthy, and respectable relationships.  Those who realize this early in life will be better off in the long run, as you have a lot of time to practice being patient.  However, this does not mean older generations are not able to do the same, it just means the situations faced will be different.  While younger generations have school, friends, and young love to deal with, older generations have to deal with jobs, responsibilities, maintaining a family, etc.  No matter what, no situation is more important, and each can be handled through patience.  If you continue to do so, future problems will be much easier to deal with, and you will have less stress, anger, and problems in your life.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
