Five Reasons to Take the First Step and Achieve Your Goals

If you want to achieve a goal, you have to work hard.  That process begins by taking the first step towards achievement.  Many people have a difficult time taking this first step, because it means having to make a change.  However, the first step is the most rewarding action you could take, and here is why.

1. It Is the Hardest Step to Take

When you take the first step, you arrive on the path to success.  Many people never take the first step, because they are afraid of failure.  They forget that failure comes from those who do nothing.   Others are afraid of change.  They forget that life is change.  Allowing oneself to be afraid of change makes it difficult to adapt to life, let alone push for success.  So, the first step is the hardest, because people make it the hardest.  However, those who break through the wall of fear and doubt have increased their chances to succeed.  By taking the first step, you have actively begun the journey towards achievement, incorporating new experiences into your life.  Now, instead of wondering when to begin, you will be thinking of pushing further down the path.  Obstacles that block this path will be less daunting with each successful maneuver.  Overall, taking the first step is half the battle, the rest is up to your abilities.  However, you are closer to achieving your goal more than you have ever been.

2. It Can Increase Confidence

The first step can be thought of as the moment when a person decides to succeed.  There is nothing more uplifting than feeling in-control of one’s own life, and by taking the first step, they are doing so.  Many people suffer from low self-efficacy.  Having low self-efficacy means they do not believe in themselves enough to make a difference.  However, by taking the first step, the person is putting faith in themselves to achieve an end result.  This can be a major confidence booster, especially when the person took their time to get to this point.  This self-confidence boost can be enough to keep the person going, meaning they will continue to move along the path of success.  The more obstacles faced, the more confidence gained.  It is all about believing in yourself and your ability to make a difference.

3. It Gets You out of Your Comfort Zone

Those who are afraid to leave their comfort zone are often the ones who want to.  Most want to have new experiences and make changes in their lives.  However, they are often afraid, because change can be scary, and many people turn this fear into a crutch.  By doing so, they are preventing themselves from living the lives they want.  People want to try new things, travel to distant lands, eat different food, etc., but these all require risk and the welcoming of change.  Taking the first step is forcing you to leave your comfort zone and have those types of experiences.  When you take the first step, you are walking into the unknown, and you are actively incorporating a change into your life.

4. More Life Experience

The first time a person takes the first step, it can be a daunting task.  However, doing so is the key towards life experience.  Risks are taken, work is done, and experience is gained.  The more a person does this, the easier it becomes, and the more experience they obtain.  Having new experiences and learning new things are how people grow and develop.  Remaining in one’s bubble will do nothing but prevent the person from living life to the fullest.  So, take as many first steps as possible, try new things, and live.

5. You Owe It to Yourself

We all deserve the chance to make our dreams a reality, so why not take the plunge?  Taking the first step is one of the most life changing experiences to be had.  It opens your eyes to the simplicity of it all.  We are all capable of doing great things, it just takes a little bit of hard work, dedication, and the willingness to follow through.  What stops us is ourselves, but what people do not realize is it works both ways.  You have the power to change your life for the better right now.  If you push through the negative thoughts, take the plunge, and work hard, you will see results.  In the end, if you fail, so what?  You took the first step, and that is more than what most of the world can say.  If you succeed, congratulations, I knew you could do it.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
