Three Ways to Stop Feeling Overwhelmed

When life becomes stressful, giving up can seem the most promising.  Of course, you do not want to cause yourself unnecessary stress, and if you have the ability to remove this unnecessity from your life then so be it.  However, there are many instances where giving up is never the answer; home life, school, professional development, etc.  We only feel the need to give up after feeling overwhelmed.  The feeling of being overwhelmed comes from stress, exhaustion, and/or feeling defeated by whatever obstacles are blocking the road to success.  Naturally, we begin to contemplate giving up to remove this feeling of pain and replace it with pleasure.  However, giving up is not necessary.  You just have to find ways to remove that overwhelmed feeling.  So, without further adieu, here are three ways to stop feeling overwhelmed.
1. Remove Yourself from the Situation
When we are overwhelmed our minds run a mile a minute.  This can cause us to think about multiple different items in a short period of time.  We then lose focus and have a hard time coming up with resolutions.  Often times, we try and make sense of everything going through our heads which causes even more stress or the need to physically and mentally shut down.  This mental state, paired with the possibility of people talking and/or depending on you, can create an unbearable situation.  Fortunately, the answer is quite simple.  Instead of remaining in a stressful situation, it is a good idea to remove yourself from the situation to take a breather.  When our minds are cluttered with thoughts and there are people around us, it is incredibly difficult to regain composure.  Removing these items can and will allow you to collect your thoughts, relax your mind, and formulate a strategy.
2. Keep Yourself Energized
You are not doing yourself any favors if you do not eat or drink throughout the day.  Similar to being tired, being hungry and thirsty enhances the severity of any situation.  Not only will you be dealing with feeling overwhelmed due to a stressful situation, but you will also be thinking of how low on energy you are.  Not only that, but the less energy you have, the harder it is to focus, which can lead to more problems and more stress.  This can cause is to shut down, preventing us from being productive and/or happy throughout the day.  So, do yourself a favor and get something to eat and drink some water, especially early morning.  Not only will you be more focused but you will be able to handle problems easier and without overwhelming yourself unnecessarily.
3. Take It One Step at a Time
Feeling the need to take on a problem in its entirety is an easy mistake to make and can cause the feeling of being overwhelmed.  Remember, Rome was not built in a day.  It can take time for problematic situations to be resolved.  The sooner you understand this, the easier it will be to formulate a realistic plan of action.  Rather than telling yourself, "I will resolve this problem," say, "I will begin resolving this problem by first doing X."  You will then have a goal and can work towards it rather than having only the end goal with no direction on how to succeed.  Performing this action throughout the resolution process will make the problem less stressful to deal with and easier to manage.  Most importantly, you will feel less overwhelmed at the thought of handling these types of problems in the future.  Take it slow, formulate a plan, and execute it.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

How Fate and Personality Intertwine

We are born with a unique personality which is then shaped by the environment we grow up in, but how does this play a role in what we call fate?  Our personalities determine our likes, dislikes, thoughts, opinions, and the choices we make throughout our lives.  We consider fate to be events beyond our control.  We often believe what transpires from these events is supposed to happen without our knowledge and are determined by the universe.  However, I believe our unique personalities intertwine with fate.  Our personalities shape us into who we are and determine how we handle life events.  Fate, in my opinion, is the initial event that we cannot control.  What happens afterward is determined by our personality and the paths we choose to walk.      What if a nuclear apocalypse decimated the world today and you were one of the survivors?  How would you deal with the aftermath, and would you consider these choices fate?  Based on my view, the event itself, the dropping of the bo
