Three Reasons to Remember Your Life History

Most of us have heard the phrase, “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”  If people do not take history into account before taking action, they may make the same mistakes as others have previously.  When it comes to our personal lives, if we do not take our life history and experience into account, we could repeat past mistakes which hindered our personal development.  We should learn from our past to avoid similar situations from ever occurring again.  If we choose not to do so, the quality of life stagnates.  Although it sounds simple, there are plenty of people who forget their past and follow similar, dead-end paths throughout life.  To avoid this, we need to be reminded from time to time the reasons why it is beneficial to remember our life history.  Here are three of those reasons.
1. Less Likely to Repeat past Mistakes
Survival involves learning from our mistakes and adapting to our environment.  We should expect to make mistakes throughout life but should always make a conscious effort to avoid repetition.  Repeating a mistake does nothing but prevent living your best life.  Drug addicts, for example, will often repeat the same mistakes for years.  Every time they do so, they are continuing down the path of stagnation, keeping themselves where they currently are in life and preventing any positive changes from occurring.  The same idealism can be applied to anything in your own life; relationships, habits, work, etc.  Reflecting on our past will allow us to move forward, maximizing pleasure and avoiding as much pain as possible.
2. Build a Stronger Foundation in Life
The more we reflect on our life history, the lesser the chances of negative and/or problematic situations from occurring.  As a result, we create a stronger foundation to build our lives upon.  This foundation includes life experience, lessons, changes, goals, dreams, etc.  The more we add to this foundation, and the fewer impurities within, the better our lives will be in the long run.  If we do not build a strong foundation, our future can become shaky, unpredictable, and has a chance to crumble, similar to a house of cards.  It is essential that this foundation be strong prior to making any major life changes.  Otherwise, there is no telling what will happen.
3. Live Life Without Fear
As previously stated, mistakes will happen throughout life, but making a conscious effort to avoid the same mistakes gives us the opportunity to live a less fearful life.  What people forget is to plan ahead.  When a similar situation arises, they are ill-prepared and have a higher chance of repeating past actions.  The more times we repeat our mistakes, the more fearful we become because we are afraid our lives will not change for the better.  Remembering our life history will help in preventing this.  If we reflect on our life history before taking action, we can decide whether or not it is beneficial to go along with what is happening.  If not, we can remove ourselves from the situation and avoid any potential problems.  Fewer problems mean we will be less fearful of repeating our past actions.  We can then move on and live happier, stress-free lives.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

How Fate and Personality Intertwine

We are born with a unique personality which is then shaped by the environment we grow up in, but how does this play a role in what we call fate?  Our personalities determine our likes, dislikes, thoughts, opinions, and the choices we make throughout our lives.  We consider fate to be events beyond our control.  We often believe what transpires from these events is supposed to happen without our knowledge and are determined by the universe.  However, I believe our unique personalities intertwine with fate.  Our personalities shape us into who we are and determine how we handle life events.  Fate, in my opinion, is the initial event that we cannot control.  What happens afterward is determined by our personality and the paths we choose to walk.      What if a nuclear apocalypse decimated the world today and you were one of the survivors?  How would you deal with the aftermath, and would you consider these choices fate?  Based on my view, the event itself, the dropping of the bo
