The Importance of Closure

Everyone experiences hardship, whether it be a breakup, loss of a loved one, or having to deal with other difficult changes.  These experiences can be both physically and mentally exhausting, especially when they have not been fully resolved.  In order to move on from certain situations, closure is needed.  Closure is the act of wrapping something up, receiving answers to questions, and/or letting something go.  By doing so, the person is able to leave the past in the past and move forward.  Unfortunately, there are many instances where closure takes a while or is never obtained.  This can result in unnecessary stress, anxiety, or sadness.  People then live their lives in the past, continuously thinking about the situation, never truly moving on.  We need closure to live calmly, accept the past, and focus on our future.
Some may see closure as a luxury.  These people often believe that closure is unattainable due to certain circumstances preventing them from reaching it.  However, closure is only unattainable when the person gives up on searching.  There is always a way to find closure but it is not always easy.  This can scare people, as when things are not easy to obtain, they often give up quickly.  To those who feel this way, is living a life asking yourself the same questions over and over really living?  Why put yourself through that torture when there may be a way to stop it?  Without closure, we are left to ponder when we should be living our lives to the fullest.  So, it seems like putting in the extra effort is worth it long-term.
I believe some people give up on finding closure due to the difficulties of facing their problems head-on.  Some cannot find closure by simply accepting what happened.  Rather, they need to be coerced, either by themselves or others, into doing so through various methods.  The best way is by focusing on the future.  For example, if a loved one passes away, some may find it difficult to find closure by accepting the death head-on.  Because they do not accept death directly, they never find peace and are left to wallow.  Instead, the person could find closure by telling themselves they will keep their loved one’s memory alive.  By doing so, they can accept the reality of the situation by focusing on future plans and projects.  This logic can be applied to any difficult situation you may be going through; a breakup, failure, being let go at a job, etc.  Rather than accepting the situation directly, find other ways to accept it, focus on these plans, and move forward.
Closure can give you the satisfaction of acceptance.  Rather than dwell on the past, you can look towards the future with a smile.  We all deserve to be happy, but we cannot do that while we hold the past over our heads.  Closure gives us the opportunity to get back on track, allowing ourselves to move on and not live in the past.  There is no reason not to search for closure every which way.  Never tell yourself that you are not worthy or are unable to find closure because there is always a way.  Work hard if you have to, surround yourself with people who can help, and do what you can to be happy again.

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what ...

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, fa...

The Fear of Death & Its Irrationality

When our time comes, and we have lived our lives to the fullest, a new chapter begins.  That chapter is death, and often times we are afraid of it.  We are afraid of death not for what it is but for what it implies; the unknown, change and leaving our old lives behind.  Humans fear change and the unknown because we actively seek comfort, stability, and happiness.  These aspects have a chance of providing what we seek, but they can also cause pain, instability, and sadness.  We may end up feeling lost or unsure of what happens next.  When it comes to death, it is different from regular unknowing and change, because the only way to understand death is to experience it for ourselves.  We cannot imitate death nor can we truly understand what happens until it is our time to move on.  This, as well as the thought of leaving everything you have built behind, can make death even more frightening.  However, we should not fear death...
