Are We Ordinary or Unique?

We all have those days where we feel undervalued, underappreciated or lost.   The duration of the day is spent overwhelming ourselves with the thought of being unimportant, or worse, just another face in the crowd.  We dwell on these days so much that they seem more abundant than the good times.  Our biggest critic is ourselves in most cases, and we often allow this to control our thoughts, feelings, and actions.  More often than not, we convince ourselves we are unremarkable, ordinary, or unintelligent, believing we will never move up in the world.
We are unique and similar, special and ordinary, intelligent and foolish.  Personality plays a role in our development, development helps in recognizing our abilities, and our abilities are the foundation of strengths and weaknesses.  Each of us houses pros and cons while adding our own flavor.  We all have a uniqueness about us but are also similar in behavior.  You may have gotten angry over something a person did wrong believing it was so simple to do correctly.  The next day, someone might do the same to you.  You may feel dumb or angry with yourself, getting a taste of what the other person felt.  Everyone gets angry, disappointed, jealous, fearful, happy, excited, etc.  Unfortunately, we occasionally let the opinions and behavior of others define our character and/or abilities.
Happiness extends from the tree of individuality.  We must accept ourselves for who we are, faults and all.  There will be times where our intelligence will shine and times where we will feel stupid.  We will be talented in certain areas and struggle in others.  There may be other people around us in either scenario.  We must not allow those people to dictate our thoughts, emotions, or actions, even when they are there to support us.  People need to be happy with themselves, ignoring those who spew negativity and using their supporters as a secondary source of happiness.  Remember, people show emotion in any scenario, good or bad, in a never-ending cycle.  Humans are similar in this way.  The goal is to ignore these similarities and focus on your unique individuality.  You are intelligent, special, and unique in your own way.  Your weaknesses do not define you, it is how you handle them which does.  So, whenever you are having a difficult day, remember who you are.  Remind yourself of your strengths and weaknesses.  We all have those moments of struggle, disappointment, and discouragement.  It does not mean we are less of a person, it means we are human.  We are ordinary, but we are unique.

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what ...

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, fa...

The Fear of Death & Its Irrationality

When our time comes, and we have lived our lives to the fullest, a new chapter begins.  That chapter is death, and often times we are afraid of it.  We are afraid of death not for what it is but for what it implies; the unknown, change and leaving our old lives behind.  Humans fear change and the unknown because we actively seek comfort, stability, and happiness.  These aspects have a chance of providing what we seek, but they can also cause pain, instability, and sadness.  We may end up feeling lost or unsure of what happens next.  When it comes to death, it is different from regular unknowing and change, because the only way to understand death is to experience it for ourselves.  We cannot imitate death nor can we truly understand what happens until it is our time to move on.  This, as well as the thought of leaving everything you have built behind, can make death even more frightening.  However, we should not fear death...
