Stand up for Your Beliefs - Here's Why

Throughout my life, I have noticed people are often quick to follow someone else's lead.  The older I became, the more I realized this behavior was linked to comfort.  Of course, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be comfortable, but it is often used as an incentive to benefit those who seek power, opportunity, and control.  When someone or something provides comfort to others, the people who "benefit" will defend the source.  They believe they are better off as a result of this source, and as such, they will do whatever they need to do to maintain it.  Sometimes, this can mean suppressing one's own thoughts, opinions, and beliefs.  Some are afraid to discuss their views as a result of violence, hatred, and propaganda.  Speaking up could run the risk of being ridiculed, judged, being subject to violence, and most noticeably, losing a structured, comfortable livelihood.
Basic human rights dictate people have the freedom of opinion and expression.  We should not be forced into living a life of discretion nor should we ever stand for it.  We deserve to speak our minds, share our thoughts, and be open with our opinions without fearing punishment.  This is why comfort is so dangerous, it limits progression.  People avoid speaking their minds at school, work, and in public for fear of backlash and resentment.  They tell themselves there is too much to lose or being put in an uncomfortable position is not worth the energy.
The problem with this way of thinking is that it prevents change.  Those who stand up for what they believe in can make a difference within their community, society, or the world.  When we choose to stand up for our beliefs, we are taking power away from the charlatans and giving it to ourselves.  We show the world one way of thinking is not always the right way.  If more people followed this advice then the world would not be so ignorant of others' beliefs.  Those who use comfort for gain would not have as tight of a hold on others.  We should always be willing to break away from the status quo, be a free thinker, and live our lives outside of fear.
We, as individuals, should never settle.  When we settle, we 'put all of our eggs into one basket' so to speak.  We allow others to dictate our actions, thoughts, and overall lives, often using that a means of control.  Growing is our only option if we want to not only be happy but make a difference.  Remember to break the barries, always fight for what you believe in, and defend yourself.  Most importantly, never let anyone control your happiness in life.

The Importance of Giving PT.2 - the Dos and Don'Ts

Should we expect to be praised for our deeds or to receive nothing in return?  Does ego play a role in generosity or is humbleness a necessary mindset?  A year ago, we talked about the importance of giving and how beneficial it is to both the giver and the receiver (Link here if interested:  https://scanlonblogs.blogspot.com/2018/11/blog-8-giving.html ).  We also talked about how happiness comes from giving and helping others and how material wealth only goes so far.  What we did not discuss is what we should anticipate and the proper way to behave throughout the process.  The art of giving involves understanding the dos and don'ts based on the situation at hand.  Not every instance of generosity will include the same factors as the previous one.      Do you believe kindness should be met with a reward?  I personally believe it depends on the situation, but we should never expect to be rewarded.  If you give money to a homeless man, your act of kindness may not lead to anyt

Three Life-Long Lessons to Remember #2

Do you need a reminder of what is important in life?  How about the proper way to handle a situation when feeling angry or stressed?  If so, you have come to the right place.  If you know these bits of information already, just remember its important to be reminded every now and again.  So, without further adieu, here are three life-long lessons to remember #2. 1. Money Isn’t Everything      Wouldn’t it be nice if tomorrow, you won the lottery?   The sheer joy you’d feel would probably be something you’ve never experienced before.   What would you do with the money: buy a house, go on an exotic vacation, quit your job?   When this type of pleasure flows over you, the possibilities feel endless.   No matter what you do, being financially free would make you happy, at least for a while.   Eventually, you would want something more than just financial freedom.   Having money is great, but what are you going to do with your money and newly acquired spare time?      We need

The Meaning of Thanksgiving - a Few Words to Remember

Tonight's blog will be shorter than usual due to Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to leave you guys with a few things to remember.  Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, is about family, friends, and making memories, wouldn't you agree?  Personally, I love being able to see my extended family, even if it's for a short while.  The holiday season is, to some, the only time they are able to get together with family and enjoy their company.  Sometimes we need to be reminded of this, so we remember to enjoy the time spent together.  Even if you do not get along with some of your family members, times like these are perfect for making amends if possible.  Do you have any memories like this?  If so, I would love to hear them in the comments.  Overall, remember that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating but sharing a moment with those you love.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I hope your day is filled with food, family, and memories. 📖  Be sure to add S
